The Kindergarten classes went on a field trip to the aquarium on Wednesday. After spending a while searching for an appropriate IT activity I came across Aquarium - Musical Sea Life, part of the Poisson Rouge website. There is an amazing amount of Early Years material here, and it's especially helpful in developing effective mouse control. The students thoroughly enjoyed the Aquarium site, and the music was soothingly hypnotic.

Today we tested out Storybird,(Collaborative Storytelling), with the Grade 2 classes. I set up a teacher account with the intention of entering student names and classes. This proved a bit of a fiddly process, and several passwords I chose for the students were already taken. Maybe if I used a system of Student Name A and password X1A, X1B etc. it may work better. In the end to save time I just used the teacher access for all the Grade 2 classes. We didn't test the collaborative feature, but this could be very powerful. The students were enthralled using commercial artists' illustrations, and were very engaged in the creative writing process. Check out Rachel's example below:
I know it was a short term, but the time seems to have flown by! The last couple of weeks the Gr5/6 students have finished off their animations in 2CASS, then they've enjoyed some downtime, mainly by playing Minecraft. The Gr4 studenrs have thoroughly enjoyed making Animoto videos - for progression they'd need to focus on content and design, as I feel they've really only been playing with the process. Maybe this then come back to the original purpose of the video itself. The Gr3 students have enjoyed the art projects, finishing with 'Around the World', placing their image on a world background. (See examples below!) And the Gr2 students (so many of them!!) thoroughly enjoyed both The Isle of Tune and Motion Planning, as well as LOGO programming. The Grade 1 classes all mapped a fiction book, Harry The Poisonous Centipede by Lynne Reid Banks. They used 2Paint a Picture and drew a map of Harry's World and labelled the different parts.
