Today I gave 5/6W the task of updating their website. I added an extra page (ucoming dates) and everyone was assigned a page to edit. Elle made a great suggestion for the blog entry; take pictures of the pumpkins and write about the pumpkin carving yesterday. Well done, Elle!
At the last moment I applied to present a workshop at the CUEBC Provincial Conference. So it was on Friday afternoon I presented an Ethics and Responsibility workshop, covering the areas of copyright (using copyright free material) and internet safety (including social media).
The Gr5 classes are in the process of producing Prezis. 5J made Prezis about their novel study, The Breadwinner. Here are a couple of examples by Ethan and Talia. The Taliban on Prezi This was interesting. I gave the students the same instructions as I gave to 5/6W last week. The only difference was that I showed them the 5/6W blog with the published pictures taken last week. Maybe it's a developmental issue, but the pictures taken by 3/4DG were generally not of a high standard in terms of subject. Most of the pictures were focussed on student faces - not so much creativity evident here. But the picture taking process proved useful for them. Next lesson we'll focus on producing more creative content!
This was an interesting experience for me, given that the theme was 'Go Wild' in terms of 'getting back to nature. Watches, cameras and technology was discouraged so that the students could 'live in the moment'. I acted as the official photographer, and presented a slideshow at Assembly. At least we stayed dry for most of the time - the rain didn't start until our journey home!
This came together very smoothly and quickly. This is the fifth year I've done this, and I feel that this one was the most successful. My instructions to the students were clear, and I was observed by another teacher so that she could make follow-up presentations with her class.
5/6W used cameras in groups to take pictures around the school. They were very attentive, and produced some very interesting results. Here are the photos they wanted to display: The students were very attentive listening to instructions, and they produced some good pictures trying out different angles and techniques (ie. using shadows). These are the pictures that they chose to publish: |
