Both 3/4DG and 5/6W are working on Christmas magazines. The students are working on groups, and have a very real deadline of the end of term. They are using MS Publisher 2007, and taking photos and gathering copyright free images.

I was thrilled with what the students produced today. We used big huge labs to add effects to chosen pictures.
Thanks to Martin Tiller! Last week I mentioned to him about using Desk Top Publishing in school. Somehow this seems to have fallen out of vogue in recent years, especially in the light of publishing to the internet (blogs, websites etc.). I'm especially interested in class magazines or newsletters. He suggested trying MS Publisher 2007, part of the MS Office 2007 suite. To that end I attempted to test drive in 5/6W. I gave them a Halloween template and suggested they write two main articles on the page, one article about Halloween in school (class party, or pumpkin carving), and one article about Halloween at home. We had pictures taken by the students in school to use, and I allowed the students to search for copyright free images on google and Flickr. I was quite pleased with both the student response and their engagement.
