Although it took a lot of work we were very pleased with our latest episode. A bit longer than the last one, but this time we featured 7 student stories and more students, including first timers. Things to focus on the future will be transitions, student interviews and a welcome overview outlining stories coming up.

Today we broadcast in Assembly (and online) our latest episode for CW5, Season 2 Episode 1 covering last terms major events. As the technical lead it's been an interesting journey of learning new skills (I was only back up before!) so the main challenges were green screen video as well as general video production. I ended up using iMovie 10, and Serif MoviePlus x6 for titles. For the next episode we want smoother transitions between stories, as well as an autocue system for the newsreaders. Here's the end result: CW5 News CW5 is the new Grade 5 News Reporting Club. Click HERE to go to the CW5 website to see the latest episode, as well as send in a request for a keen reporting team to cover your class project, co-curric, sporting event or film an interview. There is a team of more than 40 very keen reporters waiting for the call! The next episode is due to air early April, and thereafter monthly. The Grade 5 and Grade 6 classes are busy finishing their Science projects for the upcoming Science Fair. Part of their requirements is graphing results, especially when comparing two variables. In Grade 6 the students are encouraged to enter their data into Excel and import an appropriate graph. In Grade 5 the students may use any tool to prepare graphs. I revisited Create a Graph and was pleased to see it has been updated, including the ability to compare 2 data sets. There is also a helpful tutorial section outlining the best uses of the different graphs.
The Gr5 classes are in the process of producing Prezis. 5J made Prezis about their novel study, The Breadwinner. Here are a couple of examples by Ethan and Talia. The Taliban on Prezi The Grade 5 website is now functional. Adam Lewis worked his photoshop magic to produce a lovely banner image.
