Following a discussion with one of our Gr3 teachers about the dryness of the Social Studies pioneer project (dry in the sense that were no dynamic Canadian websites online) we decided to try and liven up the project by using Aurasma to bring murals to life. I used photos that were taken during the field trip to Burnaby Village living museum as a backdrop, then filmed the students using a greenscreen. I uploaded the material to Aurasma Studio online. Here are a couple of videos showing the end result:

The Tech Clubs are all voluntary and drop in, so numbers can vary. Last week there were 14 students at the Grade 4 lunchtime Tech Club, doing some great programming using Repeat, but this week only 6. This was our deadline to make online animoto videos using video and photos taken by the students this term using the floor robots. The aim is to then share them with the whole school at the Science Expo Assembly. A couple of the students worked with a partner so we ended up with four robotics videos. Here they are:
Last year I used pho.to for the students to play around with photo effects. As we're setting up a class website and blog for them to manage I let them experiment with their pictures. the results are below! This was interesting. I gave the students the same instructions as I gave to 5/6W last week. The only difference was that I showed them the 5/6W blog with the published pictures taken last week. Maybe it's a developmental issue, but the pictures taken by 3/4DG were generally not of a high standard in terms of subject. Most of the pictures were focussed on student faces - not so much creativity evident here. But the picture taking process proved useful for them. Next lesson we'll focus on producing more creative content!
This was an interesting experience for me, given that the theme was 'Go Wild' in terms of 'getting back to nature. Watches, cameras and technology was discouraged so that the students could 'live in the moment'. I acted as the official photographer, and presented a slideshow at Assembly. At least we stayed dry for most of the time - the rain didn't start until our journey home!
