To continue the animation theme we used 2Animate Lite in Purplemash to create some basic animations. There are some limitations in the Lite 2Animate - only 10 frames, and no import facility. Still, it's a nice introduction to animation, and some of the students used the 'onion skinning' tool well. Here are some Gr1 and Gr2 examples (click on the image to see the animation!)

I obtained a trial of Purple Mash, a suite of online creation tools produced by 2Simple Software. Today we used it with the Gr2 classes using a Remembrance Day writing activity. The students had prompts, clip art and a few photos with which to build their information text. The results were good, although classes needed extra time to finish. Personally I love this type of desktop publishing, and all students were able to be successful. I know it was a short term, but the time seems to have flown by! The last couple of weeks the Gr5/6 students have finished off their animations in 2CASS, then they've enjoyed some downtime, mainly by playing Minecraft. The Gr4 studenrs have thoroughly enjoyed making Animoto videos - for progression they'd need to focus on content and design, as I feel they've really only been playing with the process. Maybe this then come back to the original purpose of the video itself. The Gr3 students have enjoyed the art projects, finishing with 'Around the World', placing their image on a world background. (See examples below!) And the Gr2 students (so many of them!!) thoroughly enjoyed both The Isle of Tune and Motion Planning, as well as LOGO programming. The Grade 2 students were thrilled with the challenge of the four different Motion Planning activities ( Moving Objects, Robot Arm, Driving a car, and Multiple Robots). Some of these activities are quite complex, and the students liked trying to achieve the high score for the fewest moves. The Grade2 Tech Club worked on the Road program (road design), Isle of Tune (town planning with music!) and the Pro-bots. Paige and Sarah made a simple LOGO program that we drew onto paper using the Pro-bot. Here is their program:
Repeat 20 Forward 30 Left 140 End This came together very smoothly and quickly. This is the fifth year I've done this, and I feel that this one was the most successful. My instructions to the students were clear, and I was observed by another teacher so that she could make follow-up presentations with her class.
What beautiful weather in a gorgeous setting - a Science nature hike on Cypress Mountain. Each class had a school camera for students to take pictures.
The Grade 2 classes have been using 2Paint a Picture to make All About Me spider diagrams. Daniel was the only student to finish - more to come next week! Here's a good link for Kindergarten / Grade 1 to practise mouse and trackpad skills: http://teachers.henrico.k12.va.us/staffdev/clough_d/Websites/TrackPad.html Thanks to David Clough for this. |
