I'm keen to use the 3D printer with a whole class project. Next week I'd like to use it with the Gr4 classes making a bookmark. As they're going to be studying explorers I thought I could imprint a galleon shape using the hole function in TinkerCad, then the students could personalise their bookmarks. This seems like an intermediate step before they design their own products in TinkerCad. Here are some examples (note the bottom one was the first design where the galleon didn't imprint well!)

The Gr4 Classes made kites as part of their math & Science work. I was asked to use the school drone to film them testing their kites for airworthiness. As it was such a bright day I wasn't fully able to see what I was filming, but we were very pleased with the end result! I was asked to find an online timeline creation website. I ended up using Timeline by ReadWriteThink, which proved to be fine for the purposes we required. The limitation we found was in the number of entries, probably a maximum of 12. Here are some student examples:I was delighted when I was asked to lead a lesson about designing posters to advertise the Grade 4 fundraising effort to support the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan. We used 2Publish Extra in Purplemash. Prior to the lesson I collated some public domain images from the typhoon disaster, then the students chose which template to use and inserted images, and text to create their poster. They were very involved and creative. Here are the final products which were used to raise funds at the Christmas concerts.
I know it was a short term, but the time seems to have flown by! The last couple of weeks the Gr5/6 students have finished off their animations in 2CASS, then they've enjoyed some downtime, mainly by playing Minecraft. The Gr4 studenrs have thoroughly enjoyed making Animoto videos - for progression they'd need to focus on content and design, as I feel they've really only been playing with the process. Maybe this then come back to the original purpose of the video itself. The Gr3 students have enjoyed the art projects, finishing with 'Around the World', placing their image on a world background. (See examples below!) And the Gr2 students (so many of them!!) thoroughly enjoyed both The Isle of Tune and Motion Planning, as well as LOGO programming. |
